How Spain’s Christian Reconquest of Islamic rule led to Columbus’s voyage

This project geospatially shows how Spain’s Christian nation-building project directly relates to Columbus’s voyage to America. From 711 CE, Islamic rulers controlled Spain. Soon after, Christians began the Reconquest of the peninsula. 781 years later, in 1492, Isabel and Fernando finished the Christian Reconquest. That same year, they contracted with Christopher Columbus for his voyage to the Americas.
